Light in Jerusalem – The International Festival of Light 2010
The first international Festival of Light – Light in Jerusalem 09 - took place in the Old City in June 2009 of this year and was a huge success.
In the Festival of Light – an event initiated by the Jerusalem Development Authority and produced by the Ariel Company - participated local and foreign artists who made use of light to create breathtaking statues, art installations, exhibits and works of art that were presented in the Old City’s unique sites and squares. In addition to the light works, workshops and activities took place for all the varied audiences. During the six nights of the Festival, which is open to the public free of charge, 200,000 guests gathered and encouraged the Old City’s nocturnal activities, the restaurants, the shops and the tourist attractions.
The Second International Festival of Light will take place on June 9-16, 2010, at the Old City and its surrounding, and will constitute the focal point for two exceptional weeks in Jerusalem’s tourism, cultural and artistic landscape. Tourists and visitors from all over the world are invited to visit the City, stay at its hotels and enjoy the vast diversity which the City has to offer.

Light in Jerusalem 2010 will include the following activities:
1. Festival of Light exhibits – the artistic light creations, designed by leading local and foreign light artists, will be displayed throughout the Old City’s public and restricted areas, as well as at tourism sites. Free admission.
2. Events – Street events and performances will take place among the light creations and will enhance the visitor’s experience. Free admission.
3. Opening Event at the Sultan’s Pool - a spectacular performance with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and a stunning light show commemorating the opening of the Light Festival and the conclusion of the Israel Festival (June 9, 2010). Admission fee required.
4. Nocturnal Light Show at the foot of the Old City Ramparts - a unique performance which combines movement and light will take place every evening. Admission fee required.
5. Tourist Attractions in the Old City – the finest sites will be open to the public. Free admission.
6. Lighting Fair – A fair displaying artistic lighting fixtures will take place at the Byzantine Cardo.
7. Tours – guided tours of the light creations, theatrical tours among the displays, the City Rampart promenade and more. Admission fee required.
8. Shuttles – buses will shuttle around the Old City Ramparts and will transport visitors and ease accessibility to the various sites. No admission fee.
